Elisabeth and Paul had a Polish themed wedding at the Island Palms hotel on Shelter Island in San Diego. They had friends and family come from all parts of the country, and even all the way from Poland! There were many traditions and heirlooms incorporated into their wedding- the most noticeable would be Elisabeth’s wedding dress. Here are some words from Elisabeth about the wedding day:
“Paul and I had dated for over seven years and we finally made it to marriage! 🙂 What made it even more special was being able to celebrate my heritage, which I hold so dear, and which Paul has also started to embrace. I wore the vest from my mother’s folk costume from her region of Poland. I constantly played with these costumes when little and knew I wanted to do something to honor my mom’s culture. The costume is called “Krakowianka” which comes from the Kraków region of Poland. My sister, the maid of honor, also wore the red beaded necklace which traditionally accompanies the costume. Paul’s costume was not Polish, but my Uncle Pete, who performed the ceremony (& made the trip from Poland with his family), wore it at his wedding. My younger cousin, Nicholas also said a tradition Polish blessing. We also served cheese & potato pierogi with dinner, as food is always an important element to any Polish celebration! (I also know our guests enjoyed plenty of vodka, haha)”
One unexpected highlight of the night is when Paul’s groomsmen and friends all gathered around Elisabeth during the reception to serenade her with “You’ve got that loving’ feeling”! Hey, when in Rome!
