Marly and Maurice did it! They are married! And they picked one of San Diego’s finest venues to do so, Scripps Seaside Forum. The two have an adorable story of how they met, and just listen to how Maurice’s bold move solidified the catch!:
“Maurice and I met in medical school! So the first time I remember seeing Maurice was when I was a first year student. I sat all the way in the back (in an auditorium style classroom) and he caught my eye because he sat in the front and was wearing a bow tie and I thought that was pretty cool if not a little dorky. After that, I don’t think I ran into him at all until about a year later when I supposedly sat next to him in class (which I honestly don’t remember). He says he said hi to me, but I can’t remember it. He didn’t outright introduce himself because he was shy (his words!). A few months later, I saw a message on my phone from someone I didn’t know – my school has a phone directory for the students and he pulled my number from there. He finally came up with the courage to ask me to study with him, and we started dating officially about 3 months after that.” How cute! But even better, hear is how Maurice popped the question, in his own words:
“I proposed to her on Thanksgiving day. It felt like the perfect time because it was already a day about being thankful and I was very thankful for her being in my life. We were watching the Macy’s parade while on the couch and it just felt very familiar and like something I wanted to keep doing with her for the rest of my life. I already had the ring by then so it was just a matter of the right time and I felt like that was the right time.”
*But there is more*: “Ooh but I (Marly) have a funny story. This is before we got engaged. So while we were leaving from a restaurant, Maurice stopped to tie his shoe in a hallway near the bathrooms. I was standing in front of him waiting, so I can see that from a distance it looked like he was proposing. Anyway a waitress came by and was like “oh my goodness I can’t believe you’re proposing here”. We assured her he was just tying her shoe, and she was glad because she thought it was weird that he would propose near a bathroom and not at the dinner table. A few months later, he actually did propose” Hey, it is all meant to be!
The day was lovely. Guests were ushered in to the beautifully decorated ceremony set up by Coastyle Events, while being serenaded by caribbean sounds of a steal drum musician. The usual sunny San Diego put a light marine layer over the sky, so it was a perfect temperature outside! After the I do’s, guests enjoyed cocktail hour and then a yummy caribbean inspired salad appetizer before dinner made by the amazing Culinary Concepts catering team. While dancing the night away to the sounds from Ansom Productions, they were all treated to YUMMY beignets! Congrats to you both!
