Katie and Wayland’s wedding was a perfect example of how personalized weddings can be, which I love. Originally they didn’t think they wanted a wedding, but then they took a tour of the Huron Substation and immediately could envision their friends and family dancing and celebrating with them in this space! Katie and Wayland are both improv comedians, and would say that about 90% of their wedding guests were too! Obviously, that was a perfect set up for a great event. The couple decided to walk down the aisle together, and then even wrote each others vows. The crowd laughed along as vows were exchanged, (I can’t remember everything said, but I do vividly remember the act of googling the worlds largest carrot was mentioned…), and then the two were married! But how did this all start? Katie tells how the two actually met:
“We met working at a summer camp in Arizona in 2004. We were friendly at camp, but went home to different states at the end of the summer. Nine years later, I (Katie) moved to LA and realized that Wayland also lived here. My brother and I went out for drinks with Wayland just to reconnect from camp (it was the day before my brother moved out of LA – I made him go with me because he and Wayland knew each other better at camp and I was scared Wayland wouldn’t remember me). We’ve talked every day since then!”
The rest of the night was a combination of feasting on Italian pizza and Mexican churros, and some interesting dance moves by the whole wedding crowd. It was a blast and am very happy and excited for Katie and Wayland! Congrats!!
