When Kelsey and AJ reached out to me and inquired about their Safari Park wedding, I got so excited! I LOVE this venue! And with that, any couple that chooses to get married amongst the cheetahs and giraffes is alright with me! These two LOVE animals, and they are a super fun and adorable couple, perfect for the San Diego Zoo Safari Park! AJ even proposed to Kelsey on the safari ride with all the giraffes! These two definitely compliment each other; She is more chill, he is more outgoing, she loves dogs, he loves board games, yet they both have the same values at the core. It was such an honor to play a part of their special day, congrats again, you two!
I was so honored to have met with these two to chat about their wedding plans and hear all about their love story. All you have to do is scroll down through their wedding feature here to see how genuinely in love these soulmates are, and the confirmation of it all by the tears also shed by their close family and friends. Their wedding was basically a 5 hour long tear-fest!! (The good kind, of course!). So how did this all start? Well it was a few years ago in Chicago when Stevie went into a liquor store, and thought the man helping her pick out a great bottle of Kentucky Bourbon had a true sense of kindness to him. His demeanor prompted her to slip him her phone number, something that was very unlike Stevie. Matthew obviously called her back, and “the rest is history”. Flash forward a bit, on New Years Eve 2018, Stevie and Matthew enjoyed a great dinner at their favorite restaurant, meanwhile waiting at home for Stevie was a living room filled with candles and roses, where Matthew got down on one knee and ask Stevie to spend the rest of her life with him. They celebrated her saying Yes with some champagne, and fell asleep shortly after ringing in the New Year.
They picked San Diego’s Mission Brewery after other wedding plans were changed from the forrest fires up near the Malibu Mountains. With everything being changed last minute, they opted for a laid back setting and vibe. Stevie, being the creative she is, even HAND MADE, all of the paper flowers on the tables, including her own bouquet! The decor was very DIY, and the beer choices were carefully selected! Winston the frenchie watched as the two said their emotional vows on the top floor of the event space of the brewery. A few toasts were given, and some dancing went underway, but the main aspect of this day was true done-t0-the-bone love. Congrats again, you two!!
Irene and Leo are such teammates. They really do everything together and I can tell that when they are in each other’s presence is when they truly thrive. And, not to mention, they can plan a killer wedding!! But, to get an idea of how well they planned this event, you should also know the extent at which Leo planned his proposal to Irene. Here is the story in Irene’s words;
“Leo designed a scavenger hunt game and let me find the ring hidden at home. Leo asked ‘Do you wanna play a game?’ and handed me the first note that says ‘What is our morning routine?’. I found the next note under the coffee machine, and going forward, with the clue of ‘En route to our favorite destination’, I found the ring box in my suitcase . The ring was placed in the heart-shaped wooden box that was made by Leo when he was in middle school. It turned out that he made 14 notes that start from each letter of ‘W.I.L.L. Y.O.U. M.A.R.R.Y. M.E’. ”
How cute!! They had a perfect day with their ceremony overlooking the beach at Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla, one of my favorite venues in San Diego! Take a peek at their special day below. Congrats, you two!
